Public Holiday Closure

Medical Service Options over Public Holidays

The Highton Clinic will be closed for the upcoming public holidays:

  • Friday 25th September - AFL Grand Final Eve
  • Tuesday 3rd November - Melbourne Cup

Below are options available to our patients requiring urgent medical attention during this time.


If you are unable to contact any of the below options and require URGENT medical attention, please call an ambulance on 000 or attend your nearest emergency department.

National Home Visiting Doctor: Phone 13 74 25

The National Home Visiting Doctor can prescribe medication necessary to manage your urgent medical issue, but is unable to provide routine prescriptions or chronic medications.


They will provide coverage all day.

Medicare Urgent Care Centres

The Geelong region has three Medicare Urgent Care Centres, located in Belmont, Torquay and Norlane.


They can provide urgent care for injuries, including:

  • mild to moderate infections including COVID-19
  • persistent fever
  • pain when urinating
  • suspected fractures and sprains
  • acute muscle pain
  • minor cuts, burns, and insect or animal bites
  • heartburn, vomiting, nausea
  • headaches, migraines and brief fainting or fitting
  • constipation, diarrhoea, abdominal pain
  • allergies and rashes
  • mild to moderate asthma attacks, severe cold and flu symptoms, and other breathing difficulties
  • other non-life threatening but urgent needs.


*Urgent Care Centres do not prescribe Schedule 8 medications (or benzodiazepines).  

They can prescribe medication necessary to manage your urgent medical issue, but is unable to provide routine prescriptions or chronic medications.


Geelong Medicare Urgent Care Clinic - Phone: 03 4206 7366

Location: 75 Roslyn Road, Belmont (entrance via Corio Street)

Hours: 7:30am to 9:30pm, 7 days a week


Torquay Urgent Care Medical Centre - Phone: 03 5296 0509

Location: Ground Floor, 85 Surf Coast Highway, Torquay

Hours: 8am to 10pm, 7 days a week


Barwon Health North Urgent Care Centre - Phone:  03 4215 8000 

Location: 155 Princes Highway, Norlane

Hours: 10am to 9pm, 7 days a week


*Urgent Care Centre hours are subject to change.*

Victorian Virtual Emergency Department

The Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED), a public health service for non-life-threatening emergencies that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.


You will be connected to a team of emergency nurses and doctors, who are trained to assist you.


Interpreter services are available for patients who prefer to speak in their own language.

Annual Christmas Closure

Medical Service Options during Christmas Closure

The Highton Clinic will be closed between the Christmas and New Year period for 2026.


The clinic will close at 1pm Thursday 24th December 2026 and will re-open at 8:30am Monday 4th January 2027.


Please make sure you check your supply of regular medications early to allow enough time to request and collect any prescriptions you may require to avoid running out over this period.


Below are options available to our patients requiring urgent medical attention during this time.

Our practice will re-open for routine appointments from 8:30am Monday 4th January.
